HISTORY

Talcher College, Talcher came into existence in the form of a Tutorial College in the year 1969 in a rented building overlooking the ever-flowing river Brahmani . This became possible for the untiring and selfless efforts of some of the important personalities of    Talcher      and

 

  a generous donation of an amount of Rs. 20,510/- by Late Brundaban Mohapatra in the year 1969. Later on, the college got Govt.concurrence and University affiliation for Intermediate in Arts (IA) from the session 1970-71. From then onwards much water has flown down the river Brahmani and with it the college has grown into a full fledged degree college in Arts, Science and Commerce. Then the college sifted to its present campus near Rani Park on the side of N.H. No. 200.

    Until this day, the college has Honours teaching facilities in as many as 15 disciplines covering Arts, Science and Commerce. Besides subjects like Education and Geology are also offered to the students at degree stage. The college has also facilities for providing Vocational Education in two trades and Elective subjects in Computer Science and Bio-Technology in +2 stage to meet the present demand of the students for technical course.

 Taking into the account of the variety of subjects offered to the students of the Talcher area in degree and +2 stage, the College boasts of a leading non-govt. aided college in the undivided district of Dhenkanal. Besides all these facilities, the College provides for development of the personality of a student by offering services like NCC (for both boys and girls), NSS, Youth Red Cross, Scout and Guide, Career Counseling Cell .

This college is well equipped with very competent and experienced teaching and non-teaching supporting staff for which the NAAC (UGC) assessed the college and accredited it with B+ grade. The IGNOU authorities chose Talcher College as a Special study Centre in the year 2005 considering the demand of the local people and the infrastructure of the college in maintaining the study centre.

Having said all these, it will not be out of place to mention the notable contribution of the local people, the members of the Governing Body and the Alumni of this college who have helped the college in every respect in bringing to its present status.
